Stop manually counting lines when you need to skip the header

🧩 The Challenge

Dealing with CSV files that have a garbage header row is the absolute worst, especially when you are just trying to pipe data into another tool without writing a quick script to strip the first line. I have spent way too many minutes manually deleting headers in vim or hacking together weird head | tail chains.

💡 The Fix

Awk has a built-in record counter that makes skipping that first line trivial, so you can stop doing math or piping a dozen commands together to get clean data.

awk 'NR > 1' data.csv | your-processing-tool

⚙️ Why It Works

NR tracks the number of records awk has processed, so setting it to only print lines greater than one effectively nukes the header instantly.

🚀 Pro-Tip: Use NR > 1 && /error/ if you want to skip the header and filter for something specific in one pass.
