Real-Time Process Tree Visualization with Htop
🧩 The Challenge
Standard process monitoring tools often present a flat list that obscures the relationship between parent processes and their spawned children. Identifying the source of a runaway child process is difficult when they are scattered across the task list.
💡 The Fix
Use the hierarchical tree view mode within the htop interactive viewer to display process ancestry and nested execution flows visually.
htop -t
⚙️ Why It Works
The -t flag initializes the viewer in tree mode immediately, nesting child processes directly under their parent PIDs for clear visual identification of process hierarchy.
🚀 Pro-Tip: While inside htop, press F5 to toggle the tree view on or off dynamically without restarting the application.
