Managing Group Membership Without Logging Out

🧩 The Challenge

A user needs access to files or directories restricted to a specific group, but they are currently logged into an active shell session. Since group memberships are only evaluated at login, the user lacks the necessary permissions despite being added to the group.

💡 The Fix

Use the newgrp command to force the current shell to update its group identity and include the new group in the user’s active session permissions.

newgrp groupname
