Stop scrolling through ps aux to find runaway child processes

🧩 The Challenge

Dealing with a zombie-spawning web server is a nightmare when the parent PID keeps changing or you can’t visualize the family tree. I’ve spent way too much time manually grepping for parent IDs just to figure out what started the mess.

💡 The Fix

Use the forest view flag in ps to get a visual hierarchy of every process on the system. It turns that wall of text into a simple tree that actually makes sense.

⚙️ Why It Works

Adding the j flag enables the job control format, but the f flag is the real hero here because it builds an ASCII tree based on the process parent IDs. You can finally see the entire relationship between your services and those annoying child processes they keep spinning up.

🚀 Pro-Tip: Pipe it into less -S if your terminal isn’t wide enough to show all the process details.
