Process & Resource Monitoring (Top/Htop/Ps/Systemd)
Stop hunting for zombie threads that hide in plain sight
🧩 The Challenge
Dealing with a Java app or a database that spawns hundreds of threads is a nightmare when you’re staring at a wall of PIDs in top. You know the process is killing your CPU, but the standard view just gives you the aggregate total and hides the real culprit.
💡 The Fix
Switch your process viewer to show individual threads instead of just the parent process. It changes your perspective from looking at a bloated black box to seeing exactly which worker thread is spinning its wheels.
ps -eLf | grep <process_name> | head -n 20
⚙️ Why It Works
By adding the -L flag, you force the system to list LWP (Light Weight Process) IDs alongside the standard process information, letting you identify the specific thread ID that is maxing out a core.
🚀 Pro-Tip: If you’re stuck in htop, just press H to toggle thread visibility instantly without restarting your command.
