Stop hunting for the process locking your users out

🧩 The Challenge

Dealing with a user who cannot log in because their account is locked is annoying enough, but the real nightmare is when you can’t figure out which hung process or stuck background job is failing the authentication over and over again. I spent way too long checking auth logs just to find the wrong PID.

đź’ˇ The Fix

Use the user-specific process lister to kill every single lingering session and zombie process at once, forcing a clean slate for the user. It saves you from manual hunting through ps output.

pkill -u username -KILL

⚙️ Why It Works

Passing the -u flag specifically tells the kernel to send the signal only to processes owned by that UID, which is a massive time saver over trying to grep for PIDs.

🚀 Pro-Tip: Run this with sudo if you’re cleaning up a system account, otherwise you’ll just get permission denied errors.
