SSH & Remote Administration
Quit typing your IP addresses every time you SSH
🧩 The Challenge
Remembering the exact IP addresses for those fifteen development nodes you manage is a massive headache. You’re wasting precious mental cycles just trying to find where you stashed the host list.
💡 The Fix
Just use the SSH config file in your home directory to map short, human-readable aliases to those long, annoying IPs. It makes logging in feel like you’re actually getting somewhere.
echo -e "Host web01\n HostName 192.168.1.45\n User admin\n" >> ~/.ssh/config
⚙️ Why It Works
SSH looks at your config file before hitting the network, so it grabs the actual IP for you automatically. That means you can just type ssh web01 instead of wrestling with octets every single time.
🚀 Pro-Tip: Add IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa_special to specific blocks if you have different keys for different environments.
